| an unpopular opinion

The ‘your character isn’t even canon (enough/anymore)’ mentality some people have been preaching, mostly directed at canon character blogs. It’s ridiculous. How do you look at an active roleplay blog—which is, almost certainly, going to deviate from canon—and be upset that they’re not a prototypical, completely un-evolved, unchanged representation of the character in question?

That’s just stupid.

Roleplay develops and evolves a character; interactions with other characters from their world (and some beyond their world) provide growth and new experiences, things that will shape and change a muse’s perception of themselves, environments, events, etc. If you can keep the character’s core personality intact, and respect how their canon history has shaped and influenced them, and continue to grow them through roleplay, that—to me at least—is far more impressive and appealing.

I think blogs should aim for being true to canon, rather than trying to be absolutely uncompromising in the face of it.

| my opinion of you

Ohmygod, Diya. Alright, let be preface this by saying the more I like a person, the less articulate I am when I gush about them, okay. That being said: fucking D I Y A man. Like, she’s just—okay, wait, no, hold on. Redo.

You’re absolutely fucking exceptional. You know who you are, what you like, and more importantly in the context of tumblr rp, you know who your character is, from the most complex long-term goals right down the the basest impulses. You understand Wesker from every conceivable angle, and take the time to explore and expand on him beyond the molds of the virologist, or the ‘villain’, and you manage to incorporate the human in him without absolutely ruining who and what Wesker is. And I love that. I think I was super in love with your characterization and handling of Wesker from the get go.

But then Cas made the mistake of putting us all in a chat together and I just—you’re a piece of work, woman. And I mean that in the best possible way. It took me a while to get a handle on you but, yeah, no, you’re pretty damn great. (Did any of that make sense?) I’ve always appreciated people who just say what they mean and don’t really pussyfoot around it; you’re blunt and you don’t sugarcoat shit, and that makes you a little more intimidating to the general public, I think. Additionally, your writing is A++, and the bitches wish they could be you, okay. You’re a bit arrogant and cocky, and I think people on the wrong side of your wrath feel the cut of your censure like an actual knife, tbh, because dayum girl, you’re super smooth with the disapproval—but you know what? That’s just you, and I applaud it. Wholeheartedly.

You may be cocky—and that’s because you’re a fantastic writer and you damn well know it—but you also don’t lord it over anyone, and you’re quick to call bullshit when you think someone talented is stupidly putting themselves down. (And let me tell you, speaking from experience, even a little no-frills praise from you does some wonders.) You’re straight-forward, no-nonsense, and professional about your muse and your blog, but sometimes you turn into such a gigantic dork in the chat and the contrast reminds me you’re just as big a dweeb as I am. And when you’re disapproving, you’re honest and to the point, but never needlessly cruel (because you’re a goddamn professional), and that’s a talent I wish more people could master.

Dude, I dunno how else to wrap up this wordspam so like, lemme just say: you’re solid, and honest, and the most amazing of writers. I was a little in awe of you at first, and lbr, most days I still am. It might be presumptuous of me to call you my ‘friend’, but heyyy, have you met my muse? Presumptuous is kinda my middle name.

You’re one of my faves, chick. And you’re kinda fabulous so—I’mma casually enjoy following you forever. Is that cool with you, Y/Y ?
